By the time of Gone Troppo’s release, Harrison’s commercial appeal had taken a hard dive, and the album became Harrison’s worst-selling, prompting a five-year hiatus from recording. The most derided album from this period is undoubtedly 1982’s Gone Troppo-a record typically only remembered for the track “Dream Away,” and only because it was featured in the film Time Bandits. From Dark Horse to Somewhere in England, Harrison shifted from soul influences to pop synthesizers. Harrison released six albums over the course of these eight years and experimented with several musical styles. But it’s such a large part of the former Beatle’s solo career that you’d be rewriting history to ignore it. Conveniently, this period goes completely unmentioned in Martin Scorsese’s 2011 Harrison documentary, Living in the Material World, and is largely overlooked in Harrison’s oeuvre.
